Cata haste server guide: how haste works on the Cataclysm haste server
UpdatedWarspring is a Cata haste server, also called a Cataclysm haste server. Haste is the stat that defines how every class plays here, and it works very differently from retail Cataclysm. This guide explains the haste cap, why weapon speed matters, and how to tell how much damage you really do.
How haste works on Warspring
On retail Cataclysm, haste gives a few percent faster attacks and casts. On Warspring, our custom haste system keeps going: it works with every proc and modifier, all the way down to a 0.00 attack speed. The more haste you stack, the more often you swing, cast and proc, until your character is a blur of effects.
The haste cap
- Melee: 10,000 haste
- Casters: 5,000 haste
Reaching the haste cap is the first big goal for every character. It completely changes how your class plays, and it is what most gear choices revolve around early on.
Is a higher or lower weapon speed better?
It depends on where you are:
- Before the haste cap: a lower weapon speed helps you reach the cap more easily.
- At the haste cap: a higher weapon speed does more damage. Our damage calculation multiplies your damage by a factor of the weapon speed, so as long as you stay haste capped, a higher weapon speed means much more damage.
So a typical path is to reach the cap with fast weapons first, then move to slower weapons once you have enough haste from the rest of your gear.
How to read weapon damage
The regular damage range and damage per second shown on a weapon don't matter on our core. Only look at the numbers between < > in the weapon's name.
As weapon speed goes up, the damage per second on the tooltip goes down, but you also get the damage multiplier for attack speed, which results in more damage overall. The best way to test your damage is an addon like Recount or Details. Don't rely on item tooltips or the character screen.
Why bosses have so much health
With this much haste, damage numbers get huge, so mobs and bosses need far more health than the client normally allows. Warspring uses a custom system that lets health go far beyond the usual 2 billion cap, into the trillions for the toughest bosses. To see the right values, don't use an addon that changes health bars: most of them stop at the old maximum.
Classes on a haste server
Every class has at least one or two specs that can progress efficiently through all content. With hundreds of interactions changed by uncapped haste, some smaller mechanics still behave oddly. If you find one, open an in-game ticket: we read every bug report and work through them as time allows.
Putting your haste to work
Once you are capped, test yourself in Mythic+, where keys scale endlessly and the fastest runs end up on the leaderboards. New to the server? Start with what makes Warspring a Cata fun server.
